I founded Hemlock & Oak following a workplace injury resulting from burnout and worsening mental health.
My planner at the time was overly focused on work-centric "hustle" culture, neglecting self-care and alignment with my personal values. Furthermore, it was produced using unsustainable materials.
Determined to challenge the status quo, I spent a year researching and developing a planner that resonated with my values. This effort culminated in a successful Kickstarter launch in October 2020. The response was overwhelming, with the planners selling out within just two months.
Hemlock & Oak is now on a mission to evolve into a closed-loop company, continuously enhancing the quality of our products.
This journey has led to the formation of a thriving community of thousands of planner enthusiasts and stationery lovers.

Hemlock & Oak planners are crafted by a family-owned partner with three generations of experience. We prioritize sustainability, using acid-free FSC®-certified paper made in North America with SFI® Certified Sourcing. Our materials include plastic-free, carbon-neutral, and/or post-consumer waste components.

Our pre-orders launched on June 19th, and will begin shipping on October 15th (possibly sooner as we are going to press earlier this year).
We've run many successful pre-order campaigns, and are confident in our ability to deliver these while sticking closely to the timeline.

Utilizing sustainable materials that are backed with plenty of research is one of our core values. We are constantly investing in new material options, and push the limits of our budget to bring them to you! The 2026 Fall collection includes books with LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers with an FSC-certified paper backing, made from wood taken from responsibly managed forests and with a 50% lower water impact.
Our other sustainability practices include:
- Using zero-waste labels for printing and sticker-making
- Shipping without plastic and minimizing/vigorously recycling our plastic usage in our own facility
- Using materials with post-consumer waste and recycled content
- Partnering with FSC certified, Ancient Forest Friendly mills that practice responsible forest management
- Ensuring that our materials are renewable and recyclable wherever we can
- Making our books in Canada to minimize our carbon footprint
We believe that ethical labour, sourcing, and production consists of the following:

Our personal workplace is small, but provides benefits, flexible hours, and fair pay for all team members. It is woman-owned by Tia Masic, and operates in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
