Sustainability

Ink sustainability:
• Algae ink - The black ink in our 2025 Planners is colored with Algae Black™ pigment, which reduces carbon emissions by 200% compared to conventional inks made with carbon black.
• Algae Black pigment is made from 100% renewable algae waste feedstock.
• Recycled ink chemistry - ink chemistry during the printing process is recycled.
• We still needed to mix in some conventional black ink to get it dark enough, but we are committed to continuing with testing as we'd love to make the full transition to this sustainable alternative.

Paper sustainabilty:
• Certifications - Our paper is Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified by Preferred by Nature, SFI® Certified Sourcing, acid-free for archival quality, and made in both the USA and Canada.
• Mills - Paper mills are largely fuelled by renewable energy (70%) and recycle the materials used during the manufacturing of the paper.
• Paper process - During paper manufacturing, water is reused 10 times to reduce water usage, while treating and returning 90% of the water used to watersheds.

Ribbons:
• Ribbon duos are 100% recycled plastic waste or Tencel (Toile de Lin)

Covers:
• Cover materials - Our current covers are made from Lenzing™ Ecovero™, cotton and linen, or a mix of Rayon and Lenzing™ Ecovero™.
• Coated cover materials - All coated cover materials are Lenzing™ Ecovero™ with an aqueous coating. Aqueous coatings have low VOC emissions, biodegradable, non-toxic, energy efficient, and recyclable.
• Opting for these materials rather than traditional polyurethane covers saves 1,281 pounds of plastic material (vegan leather) each year.
• Gold foil - Gold foiling decoration is emissions-free aluminum and lacquer.

Beautiful

This pen is so beautiful, the weight is perfect and I was able to change my ink refilled with pilot precise v5 RT refills no problem. All I did was use the spring and put on refill. It was perfect as it was same size as one posted pilot G2.FYI. thank you for the fast delivery. I will treasure this pen when I use it my H&O planners. Picture show all that will work on this pen

Eco Pen

I am super happy with my eco pen, the weight it has gives the experience more importance, to me at least. I like how it writes, the only suggestion I have would be to provide come ink refills, as no brick and mortar store close to me seems to have them.

The most beautiful pen I have ever owned! It came in a cute box with a much appreciated personalized card.
The pen has a little weight to it which I thoroughly enjoy when writing and the ink flows beautifully. Lastly, the knowledge that I am using an Eco-friendly pen is the cherry on top! I highly suggest purchasing the Unlaquered Brass pen for your fancy writing enjoyment.

Lifelong fan!!!

I’ve been buying products from Hemlock and Oak for a few years and they don’t disappoint. The quality is exceptional and I appreciate how they collect feedback. This year I purchased the larger version of the planner and it’s exactly what I needed. A thoughtful company with great products.
Oh I also bought the pen this year and although it’s a little pricey well worth it. Such a beauty!!

Not hugely impressed

I mean this product is made for a person with amazing eyesight or a mouse The text is so damn small. it is like they wanted to squeeze as much into it as possible but missing out on the quality! the little butterfly and moon tags I ordered were wrapped so tightly that one came off when I was trying to unpack and it took FOREVER to arrive... like months and damn months, 0/10 would NOT recommend

I'm truly sorry to hear that your order didn’t meet your expectations—I really do strive to deliver products and service that bring joy and ease, and it’s disappointing to know it fell short in this instance. In the future, I do offer all of the downloads for free. I recommend printing the layout you are interested in at home to see if it works for you.

- Regarding the text size: I understand how frustrating it can be when the design doesn't feel user-friendly. My intention is to balance aesthetics and practicality; there are some that prefer smaller text and minimalism, and others that don't. I will review text size in our annual survey to see if there is room for making it bigger!

- The charm: I also want to sincerely apologize for the issue with the butterfly and moon tags being wrapped too tightly: this should *not* have happened, and I’ll be addressing this with our team to ensure better handling in the future. I’m happy to send you a replacement for the damaged charm and ensure it’s packaged with extra care this time!

- As for the delay: pre-orders are the only way that we can make these in Canada, and I know the wait can be frustrating. In this instance, when it finally arrived, you felt very let down. I'm really sorry about that.

Nice pen but arrival was lacking

The pen feels great and well made. However, it arrived with no label, no box or special presentation…just a pen wrapped in tissue paper. A bit shocking bc even the sticker pads have a cute touch to them with the label wrapped around them. For a $60 pen, I was expecting a bit more. It is also a bit annoying to open and close bc if you go just a little bit too far, you start opening up the pen. But I’m sure I’ll eventually get the hang of using it and hope that won’t be an issue.

Not for me

I love the idea of the pen-sustainable materials, able to use refills, and it is beautiful. However, I don’t like the pilot pen and tried some of my other pen refills but they don’t fit. The pen is heavier than I like and thus, I won’t be using it until I can find a refill that works for me. I’m glad I got a discount when I purchased it because it is a pricey pen.

Finally Found my HG Pen!!!

I’ve been looking for a minimal, weighty pen for months. I love Sharpie S-Gel ink but dislike the grip on the pen itself… When I got this one I was a little worried the cartridge wouldn’t fit because S-Gel and G2 cartridges are slightly different but it worked PERFECTLY with my S-Gel 0.5 ink and using the included G2 spring. It fits my hand perfectly, is beautifully heavy, and now has my favorite ink in it - an absolute game changer of a pen, I’m in love!

Excellent pen

I knew it would be great, and I was right. I love the weight, and the simplicity of the design. I've been using it for a couple weeks now and it's already started a nice patina that's giving it a worked in look. I'm going to have fun trying out different ink refills with it.

It’s great the only thing is I feel like the metal coat is rubbing off on my hand which is making me nervous like I hope it’s not toxic but maybe it just changes colour as it gets used as it is brass but I’m not sure I love that. I still use it though lol and it is my favourite pen I just am curious about that aspect

So many things to rave about - I'm so happy!

I bought a weekly planner and two note books, and I am SO impressed with the quality of their construction, how beautiful they are, and how perfectly the planner helps me bring structure into my life. I find planning my weeks to be a very calming experience for the first time ever! I look forward to writing in my planner and i want to bring it with me everywhere cause it's so pretty. Additionally, the writing prompts at the begining of the planner and at the start and end of each month have helped me to feel more clear and in touch with myself.
I'm honestly obsessed with all of my purchases from Hemlock & Oak and am sure I'll be a life-long customer. Also love that they are based in Canada and their products are made in Canada too!

Beautiful and weighty

I love love love this pen. My son picked it up and gasped, asking whether he could have it. I love the feel in my hand. I love the way that it writes. I obviously said no; I use my pen almost every day and take it to my different work locations. It’s like a little slice of luxury in my day.

I really like the weight of this pen and the ink flow but the brass oxidizes and discolours quickly.
